Free Software To Help Keep Your Desktop Computer Healthy

Okay, so you finally found a good desktop computer deal, got it installed and everything is running great. Quite naturally, you want to keep it that way, and I have some suggestions for you. Most of them are free and I use them myself. I never recommend something if I don't use it or haven't tried it.

Do you know what features and software you have on your desktop computer? I have a lot of stuff on mine and I use a free piece of software called Belarc Advisor to keep track of the installed features and software. Belarc will tell you the type of processor you have, how much memory you have and how many vacant slots for additional memory you have. It also will keep track of your license key for various pieces of software. It is great for adding additional memory, hardware, etc. I have been using it for years and rely on it.

I am sure you have read about all of the spyware that is lurking just beyond the horizon waiting to pounce on your computers. A highly recommended spyware checker, blocker and removal tool is called Spybot Search and Destroy.. Spybot S&D is rated very highly and it is free. (Free is good.) All of the PC magazines rate it at the top of their lists. Again, it is something I have used for years and use it to check and clean my machines of spyware and malware.

Of course, you need virus protection. Microsoft Essentials, is what I use to keep my machines of suspicious pieces of software. It serves me well and it is free also.

I will be posting other ways to keep your PC healthy. After all, a good desktop computer deal does you no good if it doesn't work at its peak level of efficiency.
